Q: How does 59:59 help a family?

A: When individuals learn to confront their fears, he or she can lead their family through this difficult period. Communication about these issues in 59:59 helps to promote healthy family
communication.

Q: Does 59:59 help people get jobs?

A: It is not the primary purpose of 59:59 to secure employment, though job networking inevitably occurs.

Q: Who leads the 59:59 groups?

A: Weekly facilitator responsibilities rotate among members in order to emphasize the need of every member’s commitment and their value to the group.

Q: When and where do 59:59 groups meet?

A: To accommodate the employed members, most groups meet either in the early morning or early evening. Groups are formed based on their schedule preference. Each group decides where to meet which may include restaurants, offices, or coffee shops. We discourage meeting in homes because of the additional burden of preparation each week.

Q: Are there any fees for the groups?

A: There are no fees.

Q: Why are meetings 59 minutes and 59 seconds?

A: We recommend this time period to help all members be good managers of their time. Groups may occasionally meet longer, but individual members should feel free to leave after 59:59.

Q: What do groups talk about?

A: Though a sample agenda is provided, each group has the freedom to set its own agenda. We suggest a brief devotional from Scripture for each meeting. Discussion topics should include issues that both the employed and unemployed find relevant.

Q: Are groups separated by gender?

A: Yes. Because men and women tend to have different needs and communication styles, we have found separate men’s and women’s groups to be more effective.

Q: How can I get involved in a 59:59 group?

A: Everyone must attend an informational meeting before joining a group. Call 678-784-5270 to find out the date and time the next meeting is scheduled. People between jobs and those who want to help are invited to attend.

Q: How can my church get involved?

A: Call 770.641.5597. We would love to talk with you about starting groups in your area.

Q: What are the requirements of employed members?

A: Anyone who is gainfully employed can be an initial employed member of a 59:59 group. You do not need a background in counseling, have a huge contact list or have a position available in your company. Often people out of work need to talk with someone about general life issues. They also need people to hold them accountable during their job search. Willingness to meet weekly and adhere to the covenant are the only pre-requisites.

Q: I’m already in a small group at my church so why do I need 59:59?

A: Most small groups do not focus solely on employment issues. 59:59 groups are intended to hold people accountable and to discuss very specific job related issues. People in a 59:59 group understand how difficult it can be to stay motivated and focused during this time.
